Welcome to the Waters: A Love Letter to Your Second Chakra
How to honor your body’s rhythms, release old tension, and reclaim flow
The new moon is on May 26 so if you’re tracking your new moon intentions with us pull out your Intentional Living Worksheet. If you’re new you can grab it here (it’s free). You might already know what you want to devote energy toward this month.
If not, this post you might inspired by this post. This is the second post in our chakra series - if you missed the first one on the root chakra find it here.
Let’s review - the root chakra’s element is earth - stabilizing, anchoring, and rooting into safety. Now, with a gentle exhale, we slip into something softer and more fluid.
When was the last time you danced?
I loved dancing when I was in college. Every weekend, my girlfriends and I would dance our hearts out at the bar—with a little liquid courage, of course. Fast-forward a decade, and dancing was a thing of the past, except if I was dancing with my kid or at a cousin’s wedding.
Then something happened.
Eighteen months after having my first kid, I hit a wall - physically, energetically, emotionally, mentally, and even though I didn’t know it at the time, spiritually. I was a bummer to be around and even though my life on paper was “perfect” I was dying on the inside and far from being in the flow.
This breaking point led me to a priestess training and in our sessions, we’d dance. The strange thing was that every time I started to dance, I started to cry.
It felt like something stuck was coming loose. I was thawing out. This happened for months but now if we danced together all you’d see is me loving life and belly laughing in delight.
Dancing helped bring me back to life.
We dance around the campfire at every one of my retreats - the next one is Oct. 24-26. I get it - dancing on cue, without alcohol, can be awkward. Some women look around nervously with a little sway from side to side, others fully embrace the music and dance like no one is watching. All is good. The retreats are come as you are.
The second chakra in Sanskrit is Svadhisthana - “one’s own dwelling place”.
The location of the second chakra is your lower belly. This area is the home of your sensuality, your sexuality, and your creativity. Your womb, your gut, your flow. It's where you hold the blueprint for birthing life into the world—not just tiny humans, but also art, ideas, intimacy, recipes, projects, and anything worth feeling your way into.
The second chakra is the color orange.
Which, let’s be honest, does not get enough credit. It's the color of ripe mango flesh, the late afternoon sun that kisses your cheeks, and that perfect pair of linen pants you always forget to wear but feel like a goddess in when you do.
The element is water.
If the root was earth—solid, foundational—this one is water. Water is emotions and your bloodline, and your relationships. Think tides, bathwater, and tears.
When balanced, this chakra lets you ride the waves of desire and emotion without wiping out. You move with life. You bend, you flow, you receive, you feel. Your relationships feel nourishing, not draining. You know when to say yes, and when to say no - without guilt.
When out of balance? Codependency creeps in. So does overgiving, creative constipation, digestive funk, or numbness in your sex life. This is when you're living outside yourself, trying to be everything for everyone, forgetting that your power comes from within—from an inner wellspring, your womb, and a quiet knowing.
Support from the Ground Up
Since all the chakras work together, here’s where sacred structure and relationship to the root chakra. For your internal pelvic organs - your bladder, uterus, and bowels to be in flow - you need the support of strong glutes, hamstrings, and a solid lower back. This stability helps mobility. Structure supports softness.
Let Pleasure Lead the Way
This chakra loves pleasure - a full-body, full-sense experience. It's your warm socks. It's playing music that makes your heart happy. It's lighting a candle for your Tuesday night dinner just because.
Romance your senses. That’s not fluff—it’s nervous system medicine. Pleasure reminds your body it’s safe. It brings you home to yourself.
A Few Ways to Love On Your Second Chakra:
Wear orange. (Seriously. Try it. Watch what shifts.)
Take a bath. Light a candle or add a couple of drops of essential oil to the water.
Eat something decadent. Then actually taste it.Try hip circles - seated, kneeling, or standing. Fast or slow. You pick the vibe.
Open your hips - with a mind on space in the posterior pelvic floor. Hip openers like pigeon, wide-knee child's pose, and butterfly pose can feel lovely. These days breathing in tabletop with the intention to soften my belly and posterior pelvic floor on the inhale is feeling oh-so-nice.
Do less. Feel more.
And if you’re noticing some big feelings, stagnant energy, or the sudden urge to cry - welcome it. It means you’re thawing. You’re listening. You’re moving your waters again.
Let That Be Enough.
You don’t have to fix your sacral chakra. Just give it loving attention.
Start by asking: What would feel good right now?
Then actually let yourself do it. That’s the medicine.
And if this speaks to you, I’d love to invite you deeper into this work. My Return to Your Core members are moving into the sacral chakra for the next moon cycle, with yoga practices designed specifically for your feminine body, second chakra activations, and a monthly moon circle for connection and reflection so that you can unpack and unfold.
Because healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in sisterhood, in softness, in slowness.
