Turning Toward the Light
How to Align with the Energy of the Summer Solstice and Leverage What’s Working
“Summer Solstice is the perfect day for honoring all that is light and simply allowing that natural force to heal us, cast out what drags us down, is or feels 'dark,' and begin a new season.” — Elizabeth DiAlto
We talk a lot about the moon, but today let’s turn toward the sun — and how we can use it as a metaphor to spark insight for the season ahead.
The summer solstice, the longest day of the year, arrives on June 20 and marks the first official day of summer. It’s a powerful turning point — a reminder of fullness, strength, consistency, and abundance. All qualities that exist within you, too.
☀️ What we focus on expands — so why not feed the light?
Our minds are wired to problem-solve, to notice what’s not working. And yes, there’s a time and place for that. But when we dwell only on what feels dark or heavy, we miss the opportunity to build momentum around what's going well.
When we focus on “the light” — what is working — we begin to attune to the energy of possibility, joy, and abundance. There’s an energetic flow that supports that kind of thinking.
I see this often with my clients. It’s easy to name what’s hard, uncomfortable, or frustrating — whether in life or in the body. But when I ask, What’s working? — there’s a pause. That question lives in what my teacher calls the Blue Zone.
🔴 The Red Zone is frustration, discomfort, and dissatisfaction.
🔵 The Blue Zone is ease, joy, meaning, and flow.
Just like a muscle, this is a skill you can strengthen. Over time, you can rewire your nervous system and neural pathways to expand your capacity to notice and soak in the Blue Zone.
Inside my Return to Your Core membership, we’re spotlighting the Second Chakra this month — the sacral chakra. This energy center lives in the pelvis and is all about flow, emotion, sensuality, and creativity.
Its color is orange, like the vibrant rays of the sun. Its element is water, inviting us to loosen rigidity and get back into the natural rhythm of our lives.
This chakra is also the seat of play, pleasure, desire, and creative expression — things we’re often taught to dismiss as “non-essential,” especially in our busy, achievement-focused culture. But they’re not extras. They’re essential to feeling alive, connected, and whole.
When we nurture these parts of ourselves — even in small ways — we free up energy, shift perspective, and reconnect to our aliveness and our true self.
“Play, as it turns out, is essential to our health. It’s not a luxury. It’s a biological drive as critical to our health as sleep or nutrition.”
— Brené Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection
This chakra is a reminder that joy isn’t something we earn after the work is done. It’s something that fuels the work — and brings us back to who we are at our core.
We’re exploring questions like:
What do you want, need, and desire?
Describe a day in your life, one year from now
If no one was going to judge you, and you had all the time and money you needed — what would you do?
Let this season — and this chakra — invite you back to what lights you up, even (especially) if it feels playful, creative, or just for fun.
🌼 The Summer Solstice is also the midpoint of the year.
It’s a time of blooming, ripening, and savoring life’s pleasures.
And with the Full Moon on June 11, it’s a beautiful time to release old stories around lack, distraction, or control — and create from a more aligned place.
